CHESS

Chess is a popular strategy board game played between two players on a square board with 64 squares arranged in an 8×8 grid. Each player starts with 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two bishops, two knights, and eight pawns. The main objective of the game is to checkmate the opponent’s king, which means the king is under attack and cannot escape. Chess is believed to have originated from the ancient Indian game **chaturanga** and later spread to other parts of the world. It is a game that develops thinking skills, concentration, and problem-solving ability. Today, chess competitions are organized internationally by the Fédération Internationale des Échecs, also known as FIDE.
